A lot is being made of Nat Fyfe relinquishing the skippers role at Fremantle. It seems the media, both here and in the East, are asking the question, was he pushed. Does it matter?
Listening to Fyfe speak, and reading his interviews, he has made id clear it was a joint decision. A decision made with consultation.
My opinion is that both the club and Fyfe himself saw that there was need for change with some new leaders approaching the maturity to lead.
It leads now to the discussion as to who should take the reins of the club. Names thrown up are , Brayshaw, Serong, and Pearce. It will now basically be up to the players themselves as to who gets the job.
For mine, I thought that Alex Pearce did an amazing job as stand in skipper throughout season 2022 and should be given the role.
He is of an experienced and mature players. Though ,like Fyfe, plagued by injury early, his body now seems atuned to AFL football.
While Serong and Brayshaw offer plenty, I feel that both need to have more time to learn the ropes needed.
It will be interesting to see just how it plays out.

Also gives Fyfe a chance to focus on his own game and his new forward role. I would favour Brayshaw to take over as captain but I agree that Pearce would also be a good choice.

Heard an interview with Fyfe on Abc radio this morning.Nat explained why he gave up the Captaincy.
Also spoke about one of the Freo rookie's helping him with his set shots at goals. His key focus is match fitness for 2023.

GTR, yes he was a better than average Ruckmen when there were plenty of the States greats of Ruckmen.
Always better than compecompetitive against them all.
Played for Mines Rivers in the GNFL. Recruited by South s from Rockingham.
I may be biased, but a very much underestimated Ruckman by State selectors.
By the way, as a junior for the Diorites, in a grand final, he kicked 11 goals.
He was small as a junior, but had long legs, and grew very quickly.
