I liked Abala, and number 42 in the ruck looked coordinated, if a bit short. And I thought he contested well. Ok, not effective at this stage.

Swans have picked up some players.

Didn't go so look forward to reviews from others but it looks like we dropped off big time in the last qtr. Did Wardman rest a few senior players? The starting team list on paper lacked quite a few of our best 22 but if the likes of Lockyer, Hayden, Schofield, Braut, Kentfield and co are still a few weeks away, then we could have a tough start to the season.

Pity you couldn't make it up there yesterday BC, there was a very congenial atmosphere for Bassendean. All the ratbags who normally reside in the McDonald stand were missing so it made for much more pleasant viewing. As for the game I don't think you can really draw any conclusions about the prospects of either team because it was so hot and players were constantly being rotated. One thing that Subiaco did well in the first 3 quarters was getting the ball out of the centre clearances which they did regularly. Clark certainly led the team in this regard. Swans came home with the breeze and they obviously dominated the last quarter but I think Subi pulled back a little once they got a  goal or two down and the final margin of 22 points wasn't really reflective of the closeness of the game.

Cheers Mike. I thought about going but for a scratchy on a hot day it didn't make a whole lot of sense coming from North Coogee. Once we get all hands on deck I think we'll have a pretty strong midfield, a tight back 6 but it's the ruck with no Zac Clarke and forwards who were dysfunctional at times last year which are our biggest concerns. Time will tell I guess.

C'mon BC I came down from York and my mate Murray from Northam!!

Lacked the intensity of the EP game and our lack of a genuine ruckman was even more obvious this week despite Eaton, Borch and the young Colts player #42 trying hard. Swans have many tall marking options and Notte at CHB who is still arguably the best contested mark in the comp.

Started the game well but did not get rewards on the board with 3.4 but generally controlled the game. That changed when Swans had the strong breeze and played it very well with hard run and spread plus their disposal was very good as we continually missed targets and seemed under pressure with ball in hand. 3rd qtr was good but we allowed too many Swans inside 50's where they scored well into the breeze, they then ran all over us in the last. Their run was impressive given the hot conditions.

For us I thought Cook looked very good, seems to have plenty of time and marks and kicks well. Mayo was good at times, contested really well but dropped several gettable marks. Kitch was used in bursts at stoppages and his smarts and fast hands were very good, rest of the mids were ok but in and out of the game. We got caught several times on the rebound when Swans got possession in the back half and our mids and backs were not going back hard enough to cover opposition players who all streamed forward giving numerous options, they ran in 3 or 4 easy goals in the goal square as a result. Very unaccountable footy that will find us out when the real stuff starts.

Spoke with Schoey and he's a month away, Kentfield has a calf so still a few weeks off, Hayden said maybe after the bye, not sure on Locks or Braut. Young Champion is lightning quick but very slight and was out muscled at most contests but has all the tricks.

Based on the result v Perth, WCER will be no walk in the park next week, especially now as they have a proper coach.

Where did young ruckman Quayle (42) come from? There’s no record of any colts games with us. Henderson didn’t play league or ressies either, he kicked 3 last week

Quale was out muscled but has a clue. Not bad below the knees and can kick a footy. Moves nicely.

JL, I think all we can ask and hope for is that the 3 rucks in Wagontrains, Eaton and Quayle can provide a contest but I cant see us ever winning the tapouts count. Kentfield and Borch can pinch hit but at around 192-194 they will be outsized every week against guys like Teakle, Stranadica, Jones and the like.

Interesting line up vs wc. Obviously not looking for stability in our last scratchy

Yes DG.  It's all over the place and has been through the pre-season games.  I'm not sure it's that great for continuity and a settled side going into round 1.  I guess it's an opportunity for the youngsters to showcase what they can do but 1 game and then back to ressies can't be good.
